Our challenge was to design a second story addition to this tiny old Craftsman cottage that oozes personality and charm – without overwhelming it! We opted to add above the garage in back so as to maintain the small-house scale. Set-back regulations required shifting the new 2nd story away from the side lot-line, providing for great design opportunities on the other side: we’ve tucked a potting shed, garden porch, sauna and outdoor shower under the overhanging master suite above! With careful attention to small-space-making, and Craftsman construction details, this little master suite addition has packed a lot of punch!
