A Suburban Compound
| A dance artist and a musician, both serious gardeners, share this quintessential
60's suburban tract house set on a large lushly wooded lot in older Bellevue.
The owners wanted to create a kind of compound, a collection of indoor
and outdoor spaces to serve their unique lifestyle. The existing detached
garage will become a dance studio. The new garage (with separate apartment
above) will be added onto the house, creating a new front entry court,
and, more importantly, a rear courtyard where outdoor music events will
take place. Interior remodeling of the existing house will provide better
connection to the gardens. The result is a unique, artists' compound which
boasts a varied range of spaces, all interconnected and embracing of the
nature that surrounds - reflecting two unique artistic personalities. |
